Daniel Tampubolon, born in Pematang Siantar, Indonesia in 1984, is a seasoned electrical engineer and visionary leader in the energy sector. Graduating from the prestigious Institute Technology of Bandung in 2006, he embarked on a career with PLN, Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, in 2007. With a keen interest in engineering management, Daniel pursued and completed his Master’s degree at Curtin University, Australia in 2012, solidifying his expertise in distribution network planning and asset management. Throughout his tenure at PLN, Daniel has held various managerial roles, including Deputy Manager of Distribution Planning in PLN Banten Region and Manager of PLN Merauke and PLN Tangerang Selatan. His leadership skills were further honed as he took on the role of Senior Manager of Planning in Easter Nusa Tenggara and later in Central Java and Yogyakarta, where he spearheaded initiatives to develop renewable energy and revitalize distribution networks. In 2024, Daniel’s career trajectory took a pivotal turn as he assumed the role of Vice President of IT Business Partner at PLN, tasked with digitalizing electricity provision from generation to retail. His forward-thinking approach and commitment to innovation have positioned him as a driving force in the transformation of Indonesia’s energy landscape. Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Daniel is deeply engaged in professional organizations both nationally and internationally. He is a member of the Persatuan Jaringan Cerdas Indonesia (PJCI) and Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia (PII), contributing his expertise to advance smart grid technologies in Indonesia. Internationally, he plays a pivotal role in HAPUA, particularly in Working Group number 3 – Distribution, where he chairs Project 4 focusing on ASEAN best practices in Smart Grid development. Daniel’s influence extends to the global stage, where he actively participates in international conferences as an Advisory Board member and guest speaker. He has shared his insights and expertise at prestigious events such as CIRED, Enlit Asia, and Dassault 4DX, ICT – PEP, solidifying his reputation as a thought leader in the energy sector.
